Opera is a privately owned financial services group whose growing portfolio includes Accuro (pending regulatory approval), Amber (now Oak Bahamas), HFL, Meritus (pending regulatory approval) and Oak. We operate across eight jurisdictions, including Bermuda, Geneva, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey, London, Mauritius and The Bahamas.
This role sits at the intersection of strategic technology exploration and practical delivery, supporting Opera’s ambition to become a digital-first, AI-enabled organisation, within a regulated financial services environment, where strong controls and accountability matter.
It is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys shaping production-grade solutions as much as exploring new ideas. The focus is not only on writing code, but on rethinking how work is done and turning modern software, data and AI capabilities into secure and scalable systems. You will explore, prototype and test new ideas, taking the strongest concepts through to secure, production-ready solutions.
What you will work on
Working across Opera’s core platforms and data layer, where clean, governed data underpins everything we build, you will:
Design and build new tools, prototypes and automations that improve quality, speed and control
Develop AI-enabled capabilities that enhance insight and decision-making
Build and integrate APIs, system connections and data pipelines
Deliver solutions that balance innovation with the governance and reliability required in regulated financial services
This role blends software engineering, data engineering and product thinking, with a strong emphasis on practical delivery and real-world impact.
Who this role is for
This role is suited to someone who is both a strong engineer and a confident communicator. You enjoy variety and are comfortable moving between experimentation and production. You have experience working with APIs, system integrations and automation and are curious about how emerging technologies, including AI and large language models, can be applied in practice.
You are equally comfortable building solutions and presenting ideas and outcomes to senior stakeholders.
Location and next steps
The Innovation Engineer can be based in Guernsey, The Isle of Man or Jersey, working from either HFL or Oak’s offices.
